Hyderabad Airport’s Customs officials recovered ₹21 Lakhs worth of gold from a passenger who boarded the flight (IndiGo) from Sharjah on Monday. The gold was actually concealed in a rhodium-coated hair clip amongst other jewelry like bangles and rings. Some of these were made of 18-karat and 22-karat gold.
The gold was reportedly found in the trash bin of the plane and seized from there.
The Twitter account of CGST & Customs Hyderabad Zone Tweeted:
Based on pax profiling & efficient surveillance, @hydcus officers at RGIA intercepted one pax arriving from Sharjah by Indigo 6E 1422 on 21.8.23 and seized #gold weighing 397 gm valued at ₹ 20.59 lakhs.
In another follow-up tweet, they wrote:
The gold was concealed as Rhodium coated hair clip and other jewelry like rings, bangles of 22kt, 18kt were found in the baggage. Further investigation into the matter is under process.
Investigation on this matter is currently underway.
