According to official data, from 2018 -19 TO 2023, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has invested an amount of 1.88 lakh crore in Exchange Traded Funds or ETFs.
Thursday in Rajya Sabha during a question about EPFO’s investment, the minister of state for labor and employment Rameswar Teli stated that till March 31, 2023, EPFO has invested 18.30 lakh crore, and 8.7 percent of the total investment was in the ETFs and the remaining 91.3 percent investment was in debt instruments.
The ETF investments in 2018-19 were 27,974 crore, in 2019-20 it became 31,501 crore. In 2020-21 it reached the mark of 32,071 crore and in 2021-22 43,568 crore and the last it invested 53,081 crore in 2022-23. And till July EPFO invested 13,017 according to the retirement fund body.
EPFO stated that they followed the government’s pattern of investment. The government has a cautious approach during investments in the stock market whenever the investment pattern approves 15 percent investments in equity.
